Standardization and technological development has created the opportunity for the advent and rapid market expansion of small satellites. The miniaturization of platform subsystems and payloads enabled manufacturers to reduce the size of satellites. Hardware costs shrank with the extensive availability of affordable commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components. The transformation of the market structure has also contributed to the spread of SmallSats. The appearance of new launch vehicles and SmallSat deployers has reduced the launch bottleneck, thus making space more accessible. Besides that, several inventions, changes and new technologies allowed small satellite technology to emerge. The number of satellites launched globally in 2021 is almost equal to the number of satellites launched since 1957. Until 2022 January 1802, nanosats were launched and used in several missions.
The presentation will focus on cutting edge solutions and use cases how the CubeSat industry can serve earth-based needs.
